A month with accommodation, breakfast, and basic services covered for free on a paradisiacal island in Greece. In exchange: collaborate about six hours a day, five days a week, in an NGO dedicated to the care of rescued and stray cats. Some may find this plan a 'win-win', especially if they are lovers of these felines that populate a good part of the Greek islands.
The Syros Cats NGO is in charge of leading this program, which will open applications on September 1st for those who want to participate in 2027. From this date, applications can be submitted to be part of the program between the months of January and June of next year. It will be necessary to wait until November to submit requests for the second half of next year (including next summer).
The program takes place on the island of Syros, in the Cyclades. It is a small Greek island, on the shores of the Aegean Sea, with an area of 196 square kilometers and barely 20,000 inhabitants.
The Syros Cats NGO emphasizes that they particularly value profiles with "training or experience as a veterinary assistant or dealing with stray cats", although they are open to "any cat lover" who is willing to "get their hands dirty" and be "responsible, self-sufficient, and punctual".
Participants in the program will have their own room but will share the kitchen, bathroom, and living room with two or three other volunteers participating in the program at the same time.
Since it is a volunteer program, and not a vacation as such, they mention that they are open to admitting "digital nomads" to the volunteer program, that is, people who work remotely 100%, as long as their jobs have flexible schedules that allow them to adapt to the NGO's work needs.
