The sudden flood arrived around 9:15 a.m. (3:30 GMT) at the Bhote Koshi River from the Tibetan side and particularly affected the towns of Timure, Rasuwagadhi, and Syabrubesi, according to official sources.
The force of the water caused serious material damage and left numerous infrastructures completely destroyed. Authorities have also warned that hundreds of people could be missing, although there is currently no definitive number of victims.
The origin of the flood is believed to be related to a strong earthquake recorded in the area, which would have caused the displacement of large amounts of water and materials towards the riverbed.
Emergency teams have deployed search and rescue devices to locate missing persons and assess the damage caused by the flood. The situation remains particularly challenging due to the significant destruction of roads and other communication routes.
Rasuwa is a mountainous and strategic area due to its proximity to Tibet, where hydroelectric infrastructures and trade routes are of special importance.
