Dale Sanders has made history at 91 years old by reclaiming the record as the oldest person to complete the Appalachian Trail, a 3,530-kilometer route that crosses 14 states in the United States, from Georgia to Maine

Known as 'Gray Beard,' Sanders reached the summit of Mount Katahdin in Maine on Monday, where he ended his journey and stopped to pray next to the summit sign. "I didn't think I would be able to come back and finish it to reclaim the record," he admitted.

The challenge was marked by physical difficulties. According to his own calculations, the American fell 71 times, six of them severely. One of the falls even forced him to briefly visit the hospital.

Sanders had previously set this record in 2017, when he was 82 years old, but four years later, M.J. Eberhart, at 83, took it from him. Since then, the adventurer began preparing for his return.

"There is a huge difference between hiking the trail at 82 and doing it again at 91. But it's possible, because I'm proving it," said Sanders, who once again proves that age doesn't have to be a limit for great challenges.
