The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has reported the withdrawal of the dietary supplement "Melatonin Time Release", from the brand Haya Labs, due to a high melatonin content that can cause various adverse reactions.
AESAN recommends that people who have this product at home do not consume it.
"The high content of the active substance melatonin declared on the labeling of this dietary supplement (5 mg/tablet), can restore, correct, or modify a physiological function by exerting a pharmacological action and may pose health risks for those who consume them," the agency states in the alert.

The Agency became aware through the Coordinated Rapid Information Exchange System (SCIRI) of an alert notification forwarded by the health authorities of the Valencian Community and has been transferred to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities, in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from the commercial channels.
