The death of 27-year-old Finnish influencer Olivia Oras is being investigated by the Helsinki Police after the young woman passed away during a cosmetic surgery operation. She lost consciousness shortly after receiving anesthesia prior to a liposuction at a private clinic in the capital and died on September 3 at the Helsinki University Hospital, where she was urgently transferred.
The family of the young woman, who confirmed her death, filed a complaint to clarify what happened and determine if there could have been any negligence during the procedure. The investigation is in its early stages, and the Police are treating it as a suspected aggravated homicide. The authorities have searched the facilities of the Plastic Surgery Center, where the intervention took place, while the Finnish Supervisory Authority for Health and Welfare (Valvira) has temporarily suspended surgical operations at the center.
At the moment, no arrests have been made, and no professional's responsibility has been determined. The authorities have not provided details about the anesthesia procedure, although Olivia's parents, Reijo Oras and artist Johanna Oras, claim that the young woman suffered a cardiac arrest after receiving sedation.
Olivia Oras began gaining internet notoriety at the age of 14. At 17, she starred in the documentary The Perfect Selfie, where she recounted her experience with fame that came when she was still a teenager. In 2017, she moved to Amsterdam to distance herself from the public exposure that had caused her anxiety and worked as a waitress. She later returned to Helsinki after a friend committed suicide in front of her.
