The Venezuelan leader defended before the international community the need to move forward in a new stage for the country and requested support for the changes that, she stated, Venezuela needs. In this sense, she asked for the support of other states to drive this process and demanded that the "goodwill" transformations be supported.
Rodríguez assumed the acting presidency of Venezuela after the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Caracas last January by US forces, as explained in her speech.
The speech before the UN comes at a time marked by the rapprochement between Caracas and Washington and by the importance of the energy sector in the relations between both countries. The acting president focused on international dialogue and cooperation as ways to address the new political and economic stage of Venezuela.
Her intervention also served to convey to the General Assembly the Venezuelan government's call to the international community to support the process of changes in the country.
