Brussels is "aware" of the threat from Russia to Spain, France, and Italy revealed by EL MUNDO this Thursday. Sources from the European Commission indicate that the EU executive is aware of the information published by this newspaper and state that the possibility of a Russian attack does not come as a surprise to them.
"We are not surprised. We know that our airspace is being tested and has been violated on several occasions. We are aware that several hybrid attacks are being directed against many of our Member States," stated the spokesperson for Technological Sovereignty and Defense, Thomas Regnier, during the Commission's daily press conference.
"That is precisely why we have also proposed flagship initiatives, the Drone Defense Initiative, the Air Shield, and the Space Shield, precisely to increase the resilience of our Member States," Regnier continued. And concluded: "So yes, we are aware of it. It is a matter for national authorities, but of course, we have a long track record of supporting our Member States in case of need."
